This example was finished from the factory in Iris Blue Metallic, a paint-to-sample (L999) shade, and received a repaint around 2003 per the seller. Under current ownership the rocker panels were repaired and refinished, the front bumper and lower valance were repainted, and the rubber impact shock mounts, taillight lenses, front and rear deck lid struts, headlight washer pump and fittings, and the door seals were replaced. Additional exterior features include a replacement dark blue soft top, a convertible top boot, integrated fog lights, headlight and windscreen washers, a rear spoiler, a high-intensity windshield washer, a powered antenna, LED taillights, and heated power-adjustable side mirrors. The 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels are finished in satin black with anodized lips and are mounted with Yokohama A008P tires that were fitted in September 2021 and measure 205/55 up front and 245/45 out back. The M491 package included Turbo-specification brakes, anti-roll bars, trailing arms, and torsion bars. Work performed in 2020 involved a brake fluid flush, rebuilding the axle shafts, and replacement of the front and rear wheel bearings and the front and rear brake pads and rotors. A set of 930 Turbo-style tie rods were fitted and the sway bar end links were replaced in 2021.
The cabin was finished from the factory in blue leather upholstery and received a refreshment under current ownership which involved rebuilding the interior quarter panels, installation of dynamat sound deadening on the flooring and door panels, recovering the dashboard, and replacement of the carpeting with a Lakewell carpet kit along with various switches and fixtures. Amenities include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a short shifter, cruise control, air conditioning, a Blaupunkt SQR 46 DAB stereo, Rockford Fosgate speakers, and power windows and locks. The air conditioning compressor was rebuilt in November 2020.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline as well as a 170-mph speedometer, a Quartz clock, and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer was repaired in November 2020 and shows 63k miles, and the tachometer and quartz clock were repaired in March 2023 by Palo Alto Speedometer. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.2-liter M930/21 flat-six received a rebuild that was performed by Morris Brothers Motorsport of Murray, Utah, in 2020, at which time Mahle 10:3 compression pistons, replacement cylinders, a Paul Mason fuel line kit, ARP head studs, a Steve Wong performance chip, and a Fabspeed catalytic converter bypass were installed. In 2021 the oil cooler lines, valve cover gaskets, fuel injectors, fuel pump, and crankshaft sensor were replaced in 2021, and a valve adjustment was performed in April 2022. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The clutch, flywheel, and transmission mounts were replaced in 2020 during the aforementioned engine rebuild.
A build sheet shown in the gallery below lists the car’s VIN as well as factory colors and options, including the M491 Turbo Look package. Factory literature, service records, a tool kit, and a spare shift knob are included in the sale.
