The James Young Limited coachbuilt body was initially finished in green and was repainted black and navy blue with yellow pinstriping as part of a refurbishment said to have been completed by Rolls-Royce coachbuilder Hooper in the early 1960s. The James Young Limited coachbuilt body was initially finished in green and was repainted black and navy blue with yellow pinstriping as part of a refurbishment said to have been completed by Rolls-Royce coachbuilder Hooper in the early 1960s. Features include a “Spirit of Ecstacy” hood ornament, fog lights, semaphore-style turn signals, UK registration plates, fender-mounted side mirrors, and bright trim. The electronic turn signals were added under prior ownership, and exterior work completed under current ownership consisted of installing an electric third brake light, repairing the semaphore-style turn signals, adjusting the door fitment, and replacing the weather seals on the windshield, back window, and trunk. One fog light does not illuminate, the windshield spray washers do not work, and there are imperfections on the body and paint.
The 17″ steel wheels wear full covers with Rolls-Royce center emblems along with 6.00/6.50 Excelsior radial tires that were reportedly installed in 2016. Braking is handled by hydraulic drums at all four corners, and the four-wheel independent suspension features coil springs up front along with a live axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs out back. The front suspension was reportedly rebuilt in 2007 using replacement upper control arm bushings and torque arm bushings. Additional work completed under current ownership has consisted of rebuilding the brake servo, relining the front brake drums, and resealing the shocks along with replacing the front brake lines and rear wheel bearings.
The right-hand drive cabin is trimmed in tan leather accompanied by matching door panels and brown wool carpets. The Russian Circassian Walnut trim was refinished in 2007 and lines the dashboard, door surrounds, and rear passenger compartment. Additional interior equipment includes a power-operated passenger divider, sun visors with tinted extensions, rear tray tables with assorted glassware, ashtrays in each rear armrest, a fire extinguisher, a modernized AM/FM radio, and a radio antenna deployed via a crank in the cabin. Additional work completed under current ownership consisted of recovering the rear seats and replacing the carpet along with repairing the antenna crank and interior lighting. The seller notes the radio is capable of auxiliary playback via a cable. The window defrosters do not work.
The three-spoke steering wheel features center-mounted hand throttle controls and fronts a Rolls-Royce–branded Smiths 100-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and Smiths auxiliary gauges. The clock does not work. The five-digit odometer shows under 3k miles, approximately 16k of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.6-liter F-head inline-six features a single Zenith carburetor and was rebuilt under current ownership with work including decking the block and cylinder head, lengthening the cylinder sleeves, replacing the valve guides, and rebuilding the carburetor. An electronic ignition system was installed in 2013, and the generator has been rebuilt to 70amp specification. Work completed since 2016 consisted of replacing the battery, fan belt, radiator hoses, fuel pump, and fuel filter along with changing the oil and coolant.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission said to have been rebuilt in 2007. A replacement clutch and throwout bearing were installed and the flywheel was resurfaced. The differential seals were replaced in 2021.
