Introduced in January 1961 as a convertible, the Starfire lineup added a two-door hardtop for the 1962 model year that featured a pillarless roofline shared with the contemporary Oldsmobile 88 coupe. The exterior was reportedly stripped and repainted in black with a white roof and is equipped with brushed-aluminum side accents, re-plated chrome bumpers and trim, quad headlights and taillights, dual side mirrors and exhaust outlets, and rear wheel skirts.
Chrome-plated 15″ wheels wear 1960 Dodge Lancer-sourced full covers and are mounted with 225/65 front and 245/65 rear Diamond Back whitewall tires. The suspension was reportedly rebuilt with 2″ drop spindles, replacement front shocks, and rear air shocks pressurized by a trunk-mounted compressor. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes equipped with a chrome-plated power booster and replacement lines.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in ivory with a matching headliner and door panels. Heat and sound insulation are said to have been added along with replacement carpet, headliner bows, and courtesy light lenses, aftermarket climate control, re-chromed interior trim, and a Bluetooth stereo connected to aftermarket speakers. The seller notes that the dash pad was replaced, the interior trim panels are fitted with plexiglass backing, and a battery cut-off switch is located under the driver seat.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames a black-painted dash panel with a horizontal 120-mph speedometer. A tachometer is mounted in the center console along with oil pressure and temperature gauges and an air pressure gauge for the rear air shocks. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added during current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 394ci V8 was reportedly rebuilt and fitted with the following components:
The engine bay was stripped, repainted, and fitted with a chrome-plated firewall cover. The oil was changed in June 2022.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a rebuilt Roto-Hydramatic automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential with a 3.41:1 gear set. The rear axle was reportedly rebuilt with a replacement pinion seal along with front and rear U-joints.
