Under previous ownership in 1985, the car was disassembled, repaired, and fitted with replacement panels by Restored Cars Karosseriedesign GmbH of Traisen, Germany, before being repainted in black. The car was fitted with a replacement black soft top in 2017 by Steve Schepp of Classic Interiors in Seattle, Washington, and additional equipment includes a replacement Sonnenland black boot cover, body-color bumpers, fog lights, a driver’s mirror, twin engine grilles with badges, aftermarket LED taillight bulbs, and dual exhaust outlets that exit through the rear bumper. The seller notes a dent in the center of the front valance, chips and scratches are noted around the body, and the chrome trim is pitted, scratched, and flaking. A photo of the car with the included luggage rack installed can be seen in the gallery below.
Silver-finished 15” wide-five wheels were powder coated under the seller’s ownership and are mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Stopping power is provided by finned four-wheel drum brakes, and the brakes were adjusted in September 2020.
The cabin is upholstered in red, and the front seat bottom cushions have been re-trimmed in leather. Additional equipment includes a heater, a locking glove box, an adjustable rearview mirror, Coco Mats, a cigarette lighter, a Blaupunkt AM/FM/SW radio, and door pockets. A four-way flasher switch has been added under the dashboard. The dash pad is faded, the clock is inoperable, and wear is present on the front seat backs.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a body-color dashboard, and green-letter VDO instrumentation includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 70k miles.
The 1.6-liter Super flat-four features twin Solex carburetors that were rebuilt following the seller’s acquisition in 2017. The fuel tank, rear muffler, and starter were also replaced in 2017, and the ignition timing and fan belt were adjusted in September 2020. The most recent service in July 2023 consisted of replacing the rear pulley seal and fuel filter and clamps as well as performing a compression test with the results provided on the records in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. Corrosion is noted on the underside, and additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
Engine stamp P☆806540☆ is shown above, and a photo of the transaxle stamp 60622 is provided in the gallery below.
