Construction incorporated either aluminum or steel bodywork built by Turin coachbuilder Maggiora over a steel box-section frame. This example is finished in red and is said to have received paintwork prior to the seller’s purchase, and chips and other imperfections in areas of the finish are shown up close in the photo gallery below. Exterior equipment includes fender-mounted bullet-style side mirrors, headlight stone guards, and grille-mounted fog lights.
Borrani wire wheels were refurbished in 2007 and are wrapped in 205/70ZR15 Pirelli P4000 Super Touring tires, while a matching spare wearing Avon Turbospeed rubber is secured under the rear cargo compartment floor. A refresh of the four-wheel disc brakes in 2005 included rebuilds of the calipers and master cylinder as well as replacement of the dual servos, lines, and hoses.
The cabin is trimmed in tan leather over bucket seats for two, with matching upholstery over the door panels, center tunnel, and rear occasional seats, the latter of which were optional for the Mistral model. Creasing and cracking are evident on the front seats, with splits in the leather present on the driver-seat lower bolsters and the shifter boot. Additional areas of wear are shown in the gallery below. The power window regulators were repaired in 2005, and the driver-side window motor was rebuilt in 2020. Both window regulators have been updated with brass gears. A replacement shift knob was fabricated in 2009.
The three-spoke steering wheel exhibits areas of wear on its wooden rim and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 300-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, each of which was rebuilt in 2005. The five-digit odometer shows 95k kilometers (~59k miles), approximately 16k of which have been added by the seller. A Pioneer Super Tuner AM/FM/cassette stereo is situated in the dash, but does not work.
The 4.0-liter inline-six features an aluminum block with cast-iron cylinder liners, an aluminum cylinder head with hemispherical combustion chambers, dual overhead camshafts, Lucas mechanical fuel injection, and twin-plug ignition. A 2008 engine rebuild by Vantage Motors in Stamford, Connecticut, included overboring the cylinders, polishing the crankshaft, decking the cylinder head, and machining the flywheel. Over-sized JE pistons were installed along with new main and rod bearings and stainless-steel valves. Service in 2020 included the installation of a replacement throttle body as well as the replacement of the fuel filter and spark plugs, while the battery was replaced in 2021. The ignition points were cleaned and adjusted in June 2022, at which time the oil was changed, the spark plugs were gapped, and the fuel pump shaft bearings were replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a ZF five-speed manual transmission, and the clutch cylinders were rebuilt in 2005. The suspension was overhauled in 2019 with the replacement of the bushings, ball joints, front shock absorbers, and rear axle limiter straps. The steering linkage was also replaced at that time, and the steering box was rebuilt with radial ball bearings. A stainless-steel exhaust system was installed in 2005. Areas of corrosion are visible on the underside.
