Based on Dodge’s mid-size Charger model, the 1969-only Daytona was redesigned for NASCAR competition, and post-production modification work was carried out by Detroit-area subcontractor Creative Industries. This example is finished in yellow with a black rear stripe and is said to have been repainted during previous ownership. Features include an aerodynamic nose cone, fender vents, a flush rear backlight, a cap that covered the Charger’s recessed rear window, unique front hood and fenders, chrome exhaust outlets that exit below the rear bumper, a 23″ tall rear wing, hood pins, and model-specific decals.
The 15″ Magnum 500 wheels are mounted with 215/75 BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial redline tires. A full-size spare is mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The replacement wheels and tires are said to have been installed during current ownership.
The cabin features front bucket and rear bench seats upholstered in black vinyl joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a center console, power windows, faux woodgrain trim accents, seat headrests, a heater and defroster, transistor AM radio, polished door sills, and lap belts. The power windows were serviced during current ownership. The console light does not work.
The three-spoke steering has a fratzog-branded center pad and frames a tic-toc-tach tachometer with an inset analog clock, a 150-mph speedometer, an ammeter, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The seller notes that the speedometer bounces. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 66k miles, approximately 10 of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 440ci V8 features a four-barrel carburetor, a Magnum-branded air cleaner assembly, electronic ignition, log-style exhaust manifolds, and an orange intake manifold, engine block, and valve covers. The carburetor is said to have been rebuilt, and the fuel tank and hoses were reportedly replaced during current ownership.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a replacement Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission. A dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers is installed.
