Based on Plymouth’s mid-size Road Runner model, the 1970-only Superbird was redesigned for NASCAR competition, which required Chrysler to produce approximately 2,000 examples for homologation. Features include an aerodynamic nose cone, fender vents, a tall rear wing, and special decals. This car was delivered new in High-Impact Tor-Red (EV2) with a black vinyl roof (V19), and it is said to have been stripped to bare metal before being refinished under previous ownership.

Gray-finished 15″ wheels wear chrome beauty rings and are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas GT white-letter tires. The power-assisted braking system utilizes front discs and rear drums.
The interior features bolstered front bucket seats and a rear bench with black upholstery and white piping. A woodgrain-trimmed console covers the transmission tunnel, the shifter is equipped with a Pistol Grip handle, and an AM radio is mounted in the center of the dashboard.
A three-spoke steering wheel with a Road Runner horn button frames instrumentation that includes an 8k-rpm tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and an inset analog clock, a 150-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 32k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added over the past four years.
The 440ci V8 received a triple-two-barrel induction system from the factory. Service in 2021 has included oil and coolant changes. The seller notes that the reproduction battery fitted in the engine bay requires replacement, and a modern battery will accompany the car.
The engine stamping reads 0A170178, matching the final eight characters of the car’s serial number.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The car received a 3.54:1 final-drive ratio when new, and additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
