The car was finished from the factory in Orbit Orange, and it was repainted in September 2001. Features include a color-matched Endura front bumper, a chrome rear bumper, a Ram Air hood, and quad exhaust exits with polished finishers. The $337.02 Judge package consisted of black-textured grille inserts, a trunk-mounted “airfoil” wing, tricolor graphics, and “The Judge” and “Ram Air” decals.
Rally II 14″ wheels wear PMD center caps and are wrapped in 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. A matching spare wheel with a Goodyear tire are stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. Power assistance for the steering and the brakes were added under prior ownership.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black upholstery with a matching dash and door panels. Rubber floor mats protect the matching carpets, and equipment includes an AM radio, an eight-track player, tilt steering, a heater, ashtrays, lap belts, a Hurst T-handle shifter, woodgrain trim, “The Judge” logo on the glovebox, and crank windows. A Formula steering wheel, a factory-style rear-lamp monitoring system, and an interior hood release were added during the refurbishment.
A hood-mounted tachometer displays a 5k-rpm redline. Interior instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles.
The 400ci Ram Air III V8 features a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 366 horsepower when new. An oil service was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Muncie M21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and a Safety Track limited-slip differential. The car was equipped from the factory with a heavy-duty fan clutch and radiator.
The engine-block stamping ends in 0P242279, which matches the car’s chassis number. The transmission case bears the same sequence.
Manufacturer’s literature, Pontiac Historic Services paperwork, and other assorted materials will accompany the car, as will a copy of the September 2016 issue of Muscle Car Review, which featured this GTO and a similar car owned by the same collector at that time. A letter written in 2006 by the original owner—who retained the car until 2000—is also viewable in the gallery.
