The 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris motor show and featured Pininfarina-styled bodywork constructed of glass-reinforced plastic over a tubular steel chassis. Just 808 fiberglass-bodied vetroresina cars were produced by Carrozzeria Scaglietti before the switch to steel body panels in June 1977. This example is finished in Nero and features pop-up headlights, dual side mirrors, louvered rear quarter windows, a vented decklid, and dual exhaust outlets.
Aftermarket 17″ Campagnolo-style wheels are mounted with Toyo Proxes R888 tires measuring 225/45 up front and 255/40 at the rear, and a 14″ Campagnolo spare is located in the front trunk. The car was reportedly overhauled under current ownership with work that included rebuilding the shocks, installing braided Teflon brake hoses and larger brake rotors and calipers, and replacing the wheel bearings, CV joints, and bushings.
The cockpit features bolstered seats trimmed in black leather upholstery along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Equipment includes a gated shifter with a dog-leg gear pattern, air conditioning, floor mats, power windows, a locking center-console storage compartment, and an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo.
The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 180-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,700-rpm redline as well as gauges for oil pressure, boost pressure, and air/fuel ratio. An analog clock and an oil-temperature gauge have been relocated to the left of the steering wheel, while gauges for water temperature and fuel level are mounted ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 31k miles, approximately 100 of which were added by the selling dealer. True mileage is unknown.
The mid-mounted 2.9L quad-cam F106 V8 has reportedly been modified by Berlinetta Motorsports of Huntington, New York with the installation of twin turbochargers and intercoolers as well as a programmable digital electronic fuel-injection system, modified pistons with stronger rings, F40 head gaskets, and modified camshaft timing. The seller notes that the most recent timing-belt service was performed in 2012, and additional work is said to have included an engine-out service to replace the camshaft belts, tension bearings, and seals in addition to adjusting the oil pump and ducts, polishing the camshaft-belt covers and breather tube, painting the valve covers and airbox, and replating hardware.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The clutch and the stainless-steel exhaust tubing are said to have been replaced, and the transmission has been regeared.
Manufacturer’s literature and service records are included in the sale.
