The DMC-12 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign and features unfinished stainless steel panels over a fiberglass underbody mounted to a Lotus-derived double-Y steel chassis. Features include urethane bumper caps, counterbalanced gullwing doors, a louvered engine cover, dual exhaust outlets, black side moldings, quadruple headlights, and a front spoiler. Service in preparation for the sale included replacing the door weatherstripping in addition to the door and engine cover support struts.

Staggered-diameter 14″ and 15″ turbine-style aluminum wheels are mounted with Nexen front and BFGoodrich rear tires that were mounted in 2022. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and the car is equipped with Eibach lowering springs. A replacement primary hydraulic brake cylinder was fitted in 2019, the axle boots, steering column bushings, and steering rack boots were replaced in August 2022, and the brake and clutch fluids were flushed in preparation for the sale.
The cabin features high-back bucket seats upholstered in gray leather along with a color-coordinated dash, door panels, and carpets. Interior equipment includes air conditioning, a cassette stereo, power-operated windows, central locking, power-adjustable side mirrors, cruise control, and a tilting and telescoping steering column. Wear is visible on the seats.
The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, approximately 6,500 of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer cable was repaired in 1996. True mileage is unknown.
The rear-mounted 2.85-liter Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 was factory rated at 130 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque. The fueling system was overhauled in August 2019, at which time the valves were adjusted and the alternator was rebuilt. Service in August 2022 consisted of changing the oil in addition to replacing the air filter and drive belts. The car passed an emissions inspection in April 2023.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California from the initial entry in October 1990 through the most recent entry in August 2019.
