The seller notes missing headlight wiper mechanisms and spots of clear coat failure on the roof. The doors, hood, trunk, all four fenders, and the front spoiler were repainted in 2021, at which time silver accent stripes were applied to the body, custom-fabricated fog light brackets were installed, and the side-reflector holes in the rear fenders were filled using steel. The headlights, grilles, power antenna, and door lock linkage bushings were also replaced. Refinished 16″ multi-piece BBS RS wheels with polished accents and silver-painted centers measure 8″ and 9″ in width and are mounted with Toyo Extensa HP II tires showing 2019 and 2020 date codes. A Dinan Stage 4 suspension kit consisting of springs, Bilstein shocks, front strut camber plates, adjustable front and rear sway bars, and adjustable rear subframe camber plates was installed in 1988. The seller has replaced the front brake pads and rotors, left-front speed sensor, rear pitman arms, and the steering center link in addition to installing Moosehead spherical upper control arm bushings and changing the brake fluid and power steering fluid.
The interior features manually adjustable sport seats trimmed in Pearl Beige leather (0158). Appointments include air conditioning, power windows, and a replacement BMW-branded cassette stereo. The glove-compartment flashlight is inoperative, and the on-board computer has been repaired along with the variable speed switch for the blower motor.
Instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows under 79k miles, approximately 1,200 miles of which were added during current ownership. The instrument cluster was rebuilt and fitted with a replacement Service Interval board in February 2021.
The 3.5-liter M88/3 inline-six was fitted with a Dinan Stage 2 performance chip and Schrick cams in 1988, while a Frank Fahey crankshaft hub kit and exhaust camshaft gear were installed in 2001. Maintenance during current ownership has included a valve clearance check and adjustment, cleaning of the six individual throttle bodies and the plenum, vacuum line repairs, an oil change, and replacement of the following:
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission that was overhauled by Metric Mechanic in 2001. The car is also equipped with a 3.46:1 limited-slip differential. Additional maintenance included replacement of exhaust muffler hanger brackets and gaskets. The Carfax report shows history in Hawaii and Idaho and lists no accidents or other reported damage from its first entry in July 2017.
