Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the production Esprit debuted at the 1975 Paris Motor Show and replaced the Europa in the Lotus model lineup. The final iteration of the Esprit was introduced in 2002 and featured a redesigned tail panel with round taillights. This example is finished in Mustard Yellow with a Spice metallic clear coat and is equipped with a body-color removable roof panel and a tinted glass roof panel. Further exterior details include a front lip spoiler, a rear wing, pop-up headlights, fog lights, V8 badging, and central dual-exhaust outlets.
Staggered-width 17″ and 18″ alloy wheels feature Lotus-branded center caps and are mounted with Dunlop SP Sport tires measuring 235/40 up front and 285/85 out back. A non-matching spare wheel and jack are stored in the front trunk compartment. Stopping power is provided by ventilated cross-drilled rotors at all four corners, with Lotus-branded AP Racing calipers up front.
The bucket seats are trimmed in black leather with yellow piping, while the dashboard, center console, and door panels are covered in black leather with yellow stitching. Brushed aluminum trim accents the interior, and additional appointments include an Alcantara headliner, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, wool carpeting, Lotus-branded floor mats, and an Alpine audio system.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 220-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer indicates 2,500 miles, approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership.
The mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V8 was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. A 25k-mile “C” Service was performed in May 2018 by RS Motorsports of Closter, New Jersey, and involved installing high performance timing belts as well as replacing the tensioners, idler bearings, water pump, and auxiliary belt. The battery is said to have been replaced in July 2019, and an oil change was performed in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery below.
The Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance lists production information, factory colors, and identification numbers. Additional materials accompanying the car include manufacturer’s literature, an SIR Esprit tool kit, a wind deflector, and two keys.
