King of the Road (KR) examples left the Ford assembly line as standard GT500s and were upgraded by the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. This example is finished in Vista Blue Metallic with silver stripes and features HID headlamps, fog lights, a rear spoiler, Shelby badging, polished exhaust outlets, and a carbon-fiber front splitter, mirror caps, and vented hood with satin-chrome finished hood pins.
Polished 18″ Alcoa forged aluminum wheels are mounted with Goodyear Eagle tires measuring 255/45 in the front and 255/40 at the rear. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with Brembo front calipers. The Shelby GT500KR package added SVT-tuned suspension components including enhanced springs, struts, shocks, and sway bars as well as a strut tower brace.
The cabin features sport bucket seats upholstered in Dark Charcoal leather with a color-matching dash, center console, door panels, and carpets. The front seat backrests are embossed with the Shelby Cobra logo, while “GT500KR” and Shelby signature embroidery accents the headrests. Equipment includes the GT500 premium trim package, ambient lighting, air conditioning, a Ford Racing short-throw shifter and shifter ball, and a Shaker 500 audio system with an in-dash six-CD changer. The airbags were replaced under recall during 2017 and 2019 services at Crater Lake Ford and Lincoln in Medford, Oregon.
A serialized dashboard plaque identifies this car as the #936 Shelby GT500KR produced for the 2008 model year.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 3,900 miles, approximately 700 of which were added under current ownership.
The supercharged 5.4-liter DOHC V8 was factory rated at 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. GT500KR examples are equipped with the Ford Racing Power Upgrade kit including a cold-air intake, Pro-Cal performance calibration, and a revised H-pipe exhaust system with performance mufflers.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 limited-slip differential. Corrosion can be seen on the suspension components.
The Shelby Automobiles label shows additional performance and style options and a total package price of $35,665. The Ford Motor Company window sticker is presented in the gallery and lists initial delivery to Jenior Ford of Randolph, Ohio, along with factory equipment, colors, and a total MSRP of $44,330.
Period magazines are included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature, a model car, and a car cover.
