The fiberglass body sits on a reinforced steel box frame and is finished in silver with black center stripes. Exterior details include a black-finished LeMans-style fuel cap, a hood scoop, a driver-side mirror, a single roll hoop, and front and rear quick-jack bumperettes in addition to fender vents, wind wings, windshield wipers, and side-exit exhaust pipes with perforated heat shields. A May 2019 accident listed on the Carfax report indicates that the car hit a tree and curb, resulting in disabling damage to the front of the car. The seller notes that the front bodywork was replaced before the entire car was repainted under previous ownership. A ceramic coating is said to have been applied to the exterior.
Black-finished 18″ Halibrand-style wheels are secured with safety-wired knock-off spinners and wear Nitto NT555 G2 tires measuring 245/40 up front and 295/40 in the rear. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with red Wilwood calipers.
The low-back bucket seats are trimmed in black upholstery with Backdraft Racing 15th Anniversary Edition motifs embroidered into the backrests. Additional appointments include a diamond-stitched transmission tunnel, a red shift knob, an emergency power cutoff switch, gray Crow Racing Gear four-point harnesses, translucent sun visors, and carpeted floor mats with Backdraft Racing 15th Anniversary Edition embroidery.
The microsuede-wrapped Ford Racing/Sparco steering wheel fronts AutoMeter instrumentation that includes a 180-mph reverse-sweep speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows just over 4k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added under current ownership.
According to the seller, the Roush 427R V8 was fitted with a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system and an auxiliary oil cooler in July 2022. Additional features include a Roush-branded air cleaner assembly and valve covers as well as an Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake manifold, MSD ignition system components, and a front-mount oil cooler. Dynamometer test results from July 2022 are provided in the gallery below and show peak outputs of 427 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. An oil change was performed last year.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission.
An identification tag affixed to the firewall identifies this car as a Backdraft Roadster that was assembled by TR-Tec in South Africa. The current Ohio title carries an “NMVTIS30 REPLICA” notation and lists the car as a 2016 Backdraft Shelby Cobra Roadster using the VIN AE9BMAAH3G1MT1007, shown above.
