Description
The body was disassembled, placed on a rotisserie, and repainted in its original shade of Fjord Green (705) following bodywork with replacement sheet metal. The chrome trim was also replated, and features include driving lights, pop-out rear vent windows, body-colored bumpers with overriders, a chrome driver’s side mirror, and a Reutter badge on the lower right fender. Chrome 15″ steel wheels wear hubcaps with Porsche crest centers along with Vredestein tires. The braking system was overhauled and replacement Boge shocks installed during the refurbishment.
The interior was reupholstered and features tan leather seating surfaces with a matching dash pad and door panels said to be sourced from Autobahn Interiors. Details include replacement oatmeal squareweave carpets, Coco floor mats, front lap belts, folding rear seats, a locking glove box, heater, and a push-button AM/FM Blaupunkt radio.
VDO gauges were refurbished by North Hollywood Speedometer and include a replacement 200-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and a combination auxiliary gauge. The five-digit odometer was reset to zero during the refurbishment and currently shows 600 kilometers. The removed US-spec speedometer is included in the sale, and total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 1.6-liter flat-four (*83784*) was sourced from another 1959 356A 1600S and overhauled during the refurbishment with pistons and cylinders sourced from Shasta Design. The twin Zenith carburetors, Bosch BR18 distributor, generator, and starter are said to have been overhauled, a replacement wiring harness installed, and the engine sheet metal was powder coated. An oil change was performed in March 2021.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a numbers-matching four-speed manual transaxle, which was overhauled in 2008 by Vic Skirmants of 356 Enterprises in North Branch, Michigan. A photo of the matching transmission number (29627) can be seen in the gallery along with additional underside photos.
The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists factory colors and serial numbers as well as a production completion date of September 2, 1959.
