The Sebring Series I (Tipo AM 101/S) was styled by Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale and first debuted at the 1962 Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva, Switzerland. The Sebring Series I (Tipo AM 101/S) was styled by Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale and first debuted at the 1962 Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva, Switzerland. The car was constructed on the short-wheelbase chassis of the 3500 GT and featured 2+2 coupe bodywork with four headlamps, circular taillights, vents in the lower front fenders, and single-piece chrome bumpers. Silver 16″ Borrani wheels wear chrome hubcaps and Firestone Cavallino Sport 200 radial tires. Suspension consists of double wishbones and coil springs up front along with longitudinal leaf springs and a live axle in the rear. Girling disc brakes are featured at each corner. Maintenance in January 2020 included replacement of the axle rod support mount, chassis lubrication, and a brake fluid flush.
Black leather upholstery on the seats, door panels, dash top, and center console is joined by matching carpets and a body-colored dashboard. Wear on the driver’s seat upholstery is shown in the gallery. Amenities include power windows, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt tri-band radio.
A wood-rimmed Hellebore steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation surrounded by black leather trim. A 250-km/h speedometer and a refurbished tachometer with a new cable are accompanied by a fuel level indicator, oil pressure gauge, and ammeter as well as water and oil temperature gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just under 60k kilometers (~37k miles), with the actual total unknown.
The replacement 3.5-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts, twin-plug ignition, and three Weber DCOE sidedraft carburetors. The engine was overhauled in 2004 by Bob Smith Coachworks of Gainesville, Texas. The valve cover seals and ignition components were replaced in 2018, while an oil change was performed in January 2020.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement five-speed manual gearbox that was installed in 2004. Additional photos of the underside can be seen in the gallery.
Service invoices date back to 2002 and are accompanied by a maintenance booklet and parts manuals. According to the selling dealer, this Sebring has participated in the New England 1000 rally in 2016 and 2017. Walk-around and driving videos are presented below.
