Replacement ten-spoke 15” wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich white-letter tires, and a steel spare mounted with a Goodyear tire is stored in the trunk. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering as well as front disc and rear drum brakes.
Inside, the Interior Décor Group adds Comfortweave inserts on the black vinyl seats and simulated wood-grain appliques on the dashboard, center and overhead consoles, and door panels. A roll bar with inertia-reel seatbelts was standard equipment in Shelby cars, and this example is also equipped with air conditioning, fold-down rear seats, and a replacement AM/FM radio. The glovebox door bears Carroll Shelby’s signature and the dashboard pad was replaced in 2019, and the selling dealer states that the air-conditioning compressor is a replacement rotary-type unit.
Instrumentation includes an 8k-rpm tachometer and 140-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. A Stewart Warner oil pressure gauge and ammeter are mounted on the center console, and under-dashboard courtesy lights and illumination in the glovebox, trunk, and engine compartment were added as part of the Visibility Group. The five-digit odometer shows just under 30k miles. The instrument cluster was repaired and LED lighting was added in 2017, and total mileage is unknown.
The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 features die-cast aluminum valve covers, and it is believed by the seller to be a replacement installed during prior ownership according to the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.50:1 Traction-Lok differential. Records indicate that the carburetor was adjusted in 2020, and the cooling system was overhauled in 2019. According to the selling dealer, the transmission leaks when parked for an extended period of time, the starter intermittently delays, a crack is visible on the muffler, and the air cleaner gasket must be removed prior to closing the hood.
The engine block shows a date code of “7D17.” The date code translates to April 17, 1967. Additional photos of stamping and casting numbers are provided in the gallery below.
