The Pantera was styled by Tom Tjaarda at Ghia, and just 436 examples were finished in red for the 1972 model year. A repaint was carried out during previous ownership, while the “pre-L” slim split bumpers were rechromed by the seller. Additional maintenance reportedly included replacing the headlight motors and repairing the electrical system. Factory Campagnolo wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that measure 205/60 up front and 255/60 out back. The brake pads and lines are said to have been replaced under current ownership, and a brake fluid flush is said to have been recently performed.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl upholstery and features a matching dashboard, center console, door panels, and carpeting. The air conditioning system has been converted to use R134a refrigerant and additional amenities include a vertically-mounted Becker Europa AM/FM stereo, an interior dome light, and a gated shifter.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation consisting of a 200-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer while auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center console. The five-digit odometer shows just under 29k miles, less than 700 of which have been added under current ownership.
The replacement 351ci Cleveland V8 was installed under previous ownership and is equipped with MSD ignition, an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley 750 cfm carburetor, and an aftermarket exhaust system. The radiator was re-cored during current ownership, the cooling system was re-wired, and the cooling motors and fan blades were replaced. In addition, the belts, hoses, water pump, fuel lines, and reservoir tanks were reportedly replaced by Vehicle Performance Center in Phoenix, Arizona, and an oil change and transmission fluid flush were performed in preparation for the sale. The removed engine is included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF five-speed manual transaxle. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
The Becker Europa AM/FM stereo was installed by the original dealer, and the addendum shown above lists a total new price of $10,759. Factory manuals and service records totaling over $20,000 spent by the current owner are also included in the sale.
The Deluxe Marti report lists a build date in July 1972 and shows production statistics as well as the factory colors and initial delivery to Santa Ana Lincoln-Mercury.
