Each of the 45 Carrera Cup cars built for the US market was devoid of sound deadening material and featured chassis reinforcement welds, an aluminum hood with an aluminum hood prop instead of gas struts, rolled fenders, unpowered side mirrors, and omission of rust-proofing materials. This example is said to be one of 20 that were not initially converted for competition use by Andial, and is also the only one painted Guards Red from the factory instead of Grand Prix White.
The right side sustained damage in 1997 when the car slid off track into a tree at Road Atlanta, after which the affected area was repaired and repainted. Clear protective film was removed, the lower plastic trim refinished, and paint correction performed in 2020s. Paint meter readings are pictured in the photo gallery below. Andial-style modifications installed under previous ownership included longer studs and spacers for the rear wheels as well as hood pins, a cowl-mounted kill switch, and an ABS on/off switch. The front bumper mounts and driving lights were also removed.
A walk-around video is provided above. The seller has fitted a factory-style rear deck lid in lieu of a previously installed RSR-style wing, which is also included in the sale. Refinished Porsche Cup wheels matching the 17″×8” and 17″×9.5” dimensions specified for Andial-prepared cars have also been fitted, and are mounted with Hoosier racing slicks front and rear. Four Kinesis wheels measuring 17″×8″ and 17″×9.5″ are also included in the sale. The rear brake pressure regulator was removed under previous ownership, and new front rotors were installed in 2020.
The cockpit houses two black Recaro seats, with a Porsche crest marking the driver’s backrest. Black door panels with pull straps have been retained along with matching carpets. Safety equipment includes a red roll cage, Sabelt five-point harnesses, and a fire suppression system. Carrera Cup USA models came without sound deadening material, rear seats, radios, or air conditioning, and the heater blower motor has also been removed from this example.
A MOMO steering wheels frames VDO instrumentation including a tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline, a 180-mph speedometer, and a clock in addition to gauges monitoring fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 14k miles, approximately 11k of which have been added by the seller.
The 3.6-liter M64 flat-six was rebuilt in 2009 at 11,600 miles by Bodymotion in Oceanship, New Jersey with new Mahle pistons and cylinders, main and rod bearings, valvetrain components, and timing chains as well as reground camshafts. Results of dyno tuning following the work are shown in the gallery below. An oil change was performed and the battery replaced in fall 2020. The engine can be seen running in this cold start video.
Engine case stamping 62N81201 matches the number listed on the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, as does transaxle stamping 2002678 as shown in the gallery below. Carrera Cup USA cars were delivered with Bosch DME engine management, solid rubber engine mounts, and sport flywheels.
A custom exhaust system was added in the late 1990s. The close-ratio five-speed G50 manual transaxle featured steel synchronizers as well as a 20-100% variable-locking limited-slip differential from the factory, and was rebuilt in 2010 by Foreign Affairs in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Carrera Cup models came with adjustable sway bars, ball joint upper spring strut mounts, modified rear spring plates, and different trailing arm control mounts. Racing-style springs and struts were added to this example under early ownership along with an updated rear sway bar.
A factory-style fuel tank was installed under the seller’s ownership, replacing a fuel cell that had been added during earlier modifications. The front storage area also features a strut brace as well as an electrical cutoff switch. Additional Andial-style adjustments included relocating the horns as well as removal of the oil cooler fans, which are included in the sale along with an air cleaner housing.
The window sticker lists the Carrera Cup Edition package at an added cost of $13,740 in addition to the original color combination of Guards Red over black partial leather. Also pictured in the gallery are a Carrera Cup USA dash plaque listing the VIN, a CoA and Certificate of Origin, a liability waiver from Porsche, manufacturer’s literature, and a Champion Racing 92 Carrera Cup T-shirt.
The Carfax report is free of accidents or other damage and lists initial registration in 1995 in Kansas. Invoices from the 2009 and 2010 powertrain rebuilds are shown in the gallery below, as are service records from previous ownership. The car has not seen track use since 2013 according to the seller.
