The Factory Five Racing Type 65 Coupe features fiberglass bodywork over a jig-welded tube frame, and this example is finished in Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White center stripes and “41” graphics. Exterior features include a vented clamshell hood, sliding side windows, bullet-style mirrors, side-exit exhaust pipes, a Le Mans-style fuel filler cap, a glass rear hatch window, and a rear lip spoiler. The 15″ Halibrand-style wheels wear faux three-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 245/60 front and 275/60 rear Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T tires. The car is equipped with adjustable four-wheel independent coilover suspension, and braking is handled by unassisted discs at all four corners.
The cockpit houses bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl upholstery along with a color-coordinated dashboard. Simpson five-point-capable harnesses are fitted for each occupant, and a fire extinguisher is stowed between the seats. Additional equipment includes a roll cage, a manually adjustable driver’s seat, a push-button ignition system, a neutral safety switch, and air conditioning. The top of the dashboard is reportedly signed by Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe designer Peter Brock.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a reverse-sweep 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer, an AEM air/fuel ratio gauge, and auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and oil temperature. The digital odometer shows 7k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 351ci Windsor V8 is said to have been bored and stroked to displace 392ci and features a performance camshaft and roller rockers in addition to aftermarket racing heads, quad Weber IDA 48mm carburetors with individual velocity stacks, and an aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission and a Ford 8.8″ housing with a limited-slip differential. A Lakewood bellhousing is fitted, and additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.
