Polished 15″ Halibrand-style pin-drive wheels are secured with three-eared knockoffs and mounted with 245/60 and 295/50 Avon CR6ZZ tires. The car is equipped with adjustable coilovers and a Jaguar-sourced independent rear suspension. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with Wilwood front calipers and outboard-mounted rear components.
The cabin is equipped with black leather bucket seats and Wilton wool carpets. Additional interior details include a wood-rim steering wheel, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, latch-and-link harnesses, and a Carroll Shelby autograph on the dash panel.
Smiths instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer indicates 358 miles.
Ford developed the 427ci SOHC V8 in the mid-1960s as a stock car engine to compete with Chrysler’s 426 Hemi. This example was built to 496ci by Performance Associates in 2001 using a reproduction aluminum block, Velasco billet crankshaft, forged JE pistons, Carillo I-Beam connecting rods, Crane camshafts, titanium Manley intake valves, and stainless steel Manley exhaust valves. The engine was also fitted with an MSD ignition, a dry-sump lubrication system, an aluminum radiator, and a fuel injection system including a FAST controller and converted Weber IDA carburetor bodies. The engine made 617 horsepower at 6k RPM in a 2001 dyno test, and the sheet can be viewed in the gallery. Service in 2021 included replacing the injection controllers and changing the oil.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO-600 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The original construction invoice is included with the car and invoices totaling over $200k are provided below, along with photos of Carroll Shelby with the car.
A photo of a 2002 BAR sticker is provided above and it lists the car’s VIN as ERA578, which matches the frame stamping.
