Porsche began to perform slant-nose conversions in 1982 after the co-owner of TAG Heuer requested a street-legal version of the 935 race car be built for him. Approximately 250 cars were fitted with the altered front bodywork by the manufacturer’s exclusive department up through 1986, when the styling began to be offered as a factory option. Approximately 250 cars were fitted with the altered front bodywork by the manufacturer’s exclusive department up through 1986, when the styling began to be offered as a factory option. Early slant-nose cars, including this vehicle, featured headlights integrated into the front spoiler, though later conversions incorporated pop-up headlights.
This car is one just 42 slant-nose conversions built by Porsche for the 1982 model year and was delivered new finished in paint-to-sample Platinum grey metallic. The exterior has been repainted in its factory color and also features a sunroof, dual sideview mirrors, rocker extensions, a rear window wiper, and a “tea tray” rear spoiler. Note the European-market side markers, rear fog light, and slender rear bumperettes. New bumper seals were installed in October 2020.
Staggered-width 16” Fuchs wheels feature black centers and wear Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires, which were mounted in 2020 and measure 205/55 up front and 225/50 out back. 917-style brakes incorporate four-piston calipers and ventilated and cross-drilled rotors at all four corners. The cabin is trimmed in Can-Can leather (VE) and features a black headliner and black piping on optional front sport seats. Black carpeting is protected by Coco mats up front. Factory amenities include air conditioning and power windows.
A 180-mph speedometer was installed after the car was imported to the US, and the six-digit odometer now shows 43,700 miles. Additional VDO instrumentation includes a 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset boost gauge, as well as a clock and gauges for fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. A Blaupunkt Alaska CD player has been added, and one of the window switches was replaced in October 2020.
The turbocharged 3.3L flat-six received modifications to its emissions system in the mid 1980s to meet US requirements. EPA and NHTSA documents related to the import and federalization processes can be reviewed in the gallery. The engine was rebuilt in 1994 at 38k miles by Louden Motorcar Service in Dallas, Texas, and the turbocharger was reconditioned at that time. Service performed in October 2020 included replacing the engine mounts, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil thermostat O-ring, accessory belts, hood pad, and a hood strut. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle with an optional limited-slip differential. Additional underside photos are included in the gallery below.
Case stamping *67C0709* can be seen above and matches the engine number listed on a production information sheet provided by Porsche Chandler of Arizona. An invoice from a November 2020 inspection by Porsche Chandler notes that the matching-numbers transaxle, serial number 77C0992, also remains fitted.
A 1991 letter from Porsche states that this 911 Turbo was constructed by their exclusive department in Zuffenhausen. It also notes that 42 slant-nose vehicles were built in 1982.
The Porsche Production Specifications certificate lists a completion date in July of 1982 and outlines the factory colors and options. The production information sheet from Porsche Chandler is shown in the gallery.
